If you’re searching for seaside villages to visit this summer, Thassos is an excellent choice in Northern Greece. This small island combines the best of mountain and sea experiences, making it a paradise for sun lovers with its 50+ beaches.
Your arrival on Thassos will take you to either Limenas, connected to Keramoti, or Skala Prinos, the ferry port for those coming from Kavala. Limenas, the island’s capital, offers plenty of accommodation options, restaurants, bars, and shops. Right near the town, you’ll find Limanaki Beach – perfect for a refreshing dip before or after exploring the archaeological site in Limenas. Skala Prinos, on the other hand, provides a lot of hotels and tavernas, as well as a municipal camping site at Dasilio Beach.
A must-visit seaside village is Aliki, practically a whole chapter by itself. This small peninsula boasts two stunning bays with crystal-clear emerald waters. Aliki has flourished with numerous restaurants, hotels, and rental rooms. Besides its natural beauty and delicious seafood, Aliki is famous for its rich history, including an archaeological site and an ancient semi-submerged marble quarry.
Other coastal villages worth exploring include Kinira, home to Paradise Beach, one of the island’s most famous beaches, and Limenaria, the second-largest village after Limenas. Don’t miss Skala Potamias, located next to the 3-kilometre-long Golden Beach, and Chrysi Akti, another beautiful beach.
Although Thassos has earned its reputation as a “family island,” it’s also a favourite among young travellers. Many visit for their first trip without parents, either solo, with friends, or as couples. For those seeking nightlife, Potos is the place to be. Known for its buzzing bars, lovely summer vibes, and a stunning beach, Potos keeps the energy high until dawn.
For the full experience of Thassos, plan a road trip along the island’s main circular road. Open your map and stop at every beach along the way for a swim, and visit every seaside village on your way for snacks, coffee, or a meal.
While Thassos has over 50 beaches, you can drive around the whole island in just 2–3 hours (without stops). If you want a change of scenery, head up to the island’s amazing mountain villages.
