Skala Kallirachis is associated with the mountainous village of Kallirachi, which is why they share the same name. It is a small coastal village built mainly by fishermen who made the first huts to support their fishing equipment. It has 600 permanent residents, making it a village full of life all year round. As the years passed, the huts became homes, and Skala Kallirachi became a beautiful holiday destination. Although the village has changed, the fresh, delicious fish is still one of the main attractions of this area.
Located 21 kilometers southwest of Limenas Thassos and 7 kilometers south of the port in Skala Prinos, Skala Kallirachis is easy to reach. To get there, you can take a taxi or rent a car, but there are frequent bus routes from many villages of Thassos, especially during summer. If you depend on public transportation or travel on a budget, you should prefer staying in villages like Skala Kallirachis or Skala Prinou because of the regular bus routes. Also, Limenaria and Potos are within a short driving distance, just 17-20 kilometers to the south.
Next to the idyllic port is a beautiful beach with shallow waters, white sand, and small pebbles where you can swim and watch the mountains on the mainland. As the sun goes down and the lights of Kavala across the sea turn on, the place transforms into a romantic scene where you can sit and relax.
As mentioned above, Skala Kallirachis is famous for the fish served in its taverns and restaurants. So, once you get there, don’t miss trying freshly caught fish, seafood, and traditional recipes alongside local drinks such as wine, tsipouro, and ouzo. If you are lucky enough to be in Thassos in July or August, there is a chance you will participate in the Sardine Festival, where you can taste little grilled sardines for free.
In Skala Kallirachis, sitting at the port, watching the sunset and the little boats starting their fishing journey, is an experience you don’t want to miss. As simple as it sounds, it can fill you with feelings of joy and relaxation that you will never forget.
