Description

While exploring the Ancient Agora of Limenas Thassos, you will find the Ancient Odeion, which looks much like a small theater. This archaeological site is well preserved, constructed from Thassian marble in the 2nd century B.C., and located south of the Ancient Agora. It is a powerful proof of the architectural prowess and skilled craftsmanship of the ancient Thassians.

The Ancient Odeion’s structure, primarily consisting of a hollow encircled by three semicircular rows of seats, a non-paved orchestra, and a stage, testifies to the cultural activities that once filled its space.

Despite its physical wear over time, the spirit of the Ancient Odeion remains alive, allowing the visitor to imagine performances and gatherings from an era long ago. This site, just a minute’s walk from the ferry boat port, offers an opportunity to connect with the timeless spirit of Thassos’s ancient heritage.

Combine your visit with a quick swim at Limanaki Beach, a traditional meal at a tavern near the Ancient Port, and a walk through history at the Archaeological Museum of Thassos.
