Kinira is a small coastal village on the eastern shores of Thassos, 20 kilometers southeast of Limenas and 35 kilometers east of Skala Prinos. Hidden between pine-covered mountains and the turquoise Aegean Sea, Kinira is the perfect retreat for those seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist hubs.
If you are staying in Limenas or just arrived at the island and want to get to your rooms in Kinira, you can get there by renting a vehicle from businesses at the port or taking a taxi that’ll get you there in 20 to 30 minutes. Otherwise, you can take the bus from Limenas, which takes you to Kinira and Paradeisos Beach. The first route starts at 10.30 a.m. and the second at 5.15 in the afternoon. Alternatively, if you are staying at Limenaria and want to explore the east side of Thassos, there is a bus route that makes the round of the island and starts at 9.50 a.m. and at 3.50 p.m. This route passes from Kinira, Paradeisos Beach, and Alyki.
Kinira is located next to the most famous beach of Thassos: Paradeisos Beach. As its name states, this beautiful piece of paradise on earth is just 2 kilometers from Kinira, and everyone who stays here can enjoy both of them during their visit.
Directly across from Kinira lies a small island, widely referred to as “Kiniriotiko” but also known as the island of Kinira. This unique place is a testament to the area’s rich natural beauty. What makes Kiniriotiko particularly intriguing is its status as a private island and a protected area by Natura 2000. There are no buildings on this island except for its owner’s residence, which is not inhabited anymore. According to the local fishermen, this small piece of land has beautiful rocky beaches with plenty of fish surrounding them. The fish gathered around Kiniriotiko provide local taverns with fresh and delicious seafood, one of the main attractions in Kinira.
Although Kinira is a tiny village with just 5 permanent residents, visitors are greeted with all the essentials to make their vacation comfortable. From traditional Greek tavernas to pizzerias that serve European cuisine, the dining options can cater to diverse tastes. Additionally, the local supermarket can provide travelers with all the essential ingredients for home-cooked meals and freshly baked traditional bread as well.
Its touristic development in the past years resulted in many accommodation options for tourists and travelers while maintaining its peaceful atmosphere. Kinira’s two beaches are still not crowded, even during the peak of the touristic season, which makes it a perfect destination for those who enjoy their solitude next to beautiful, almost raw, and wild nature.
More astonishing places await your exploration within a small distance from Kinira, like the famous beach Chrysi Ammoudia, 10 kilometers north of Kinira, and Alyki, the extraordinary, ancient village 10 kilometers south. The quiet atmosphere and the green hills with trees that go down to the seashore make Kinira one of the most iconic places to stay and relax while exploring the rest of the island. From some spots, you can also admire the view of Samothrace Island in the distant sky background.
Throughout Kinira, the genuine warmth and hospitality of the locals turn every interaction into a memorable experience.
