Description

Beneath the protective gaze of Archangel Michael’s monastery lies a hidden gulf and Arsanas Beach. The name comes from the word “tarsanas,” which refers to shipyards where small fishing boats are launched for cleaning, painting, and guarding. This beach used to be the tarsanas of the monastery. To reach this location, you have to travel 38 kilometers south of Limenas and 40 kilometers southwest of Skala Prinos. It is close to Giola Lagoon, Livadi Beach, and Thimonia Beach if you want to combine more than one adventure in your day!

Arsanas Beach is a coastal jewel, a slice of wild paradise, accessible by a detour off the main road towards Livadi Beach. As you leave the comfort of the smooth road for a dusty and bumpy one, a 2km journey brings you to a car park, marking the beginning of your adventure. A narrow, steep path will test you. Still, those who dare to descend are rewarded with the sight of shimmering emerald waters, a sanctuary for those seeking tranquility. Other ways to reach this stunning destination are by boat or swimming from Livadi Beach, but only if you are an experienced swimmer in good shape.

Once you’ve reached the beach, you’ll find the shore lined with fine sand and pebbles, transitioning to rocks as you wade into the water, which is always cold due to underwater springs from the mountain. While sea urchins play “hide and seek” in the shallows, requiring a careful step and swimming shoes, the waters beyond are deeper, and you can swim freely. Fishing enthusiasts will find their own corner of bliss, with several spots promising a rewarding catch.
